Nick Hersey is a British born artist, currently living and working in Derbyshire. He studied Graphic Design and Illustration at Kingston University. He has lived and exhibited in England, Brazil, Thailand and China. He is currently represented by Island6 gallery, a working studio and artistic collective in Shanghai.
Nick’s work explores social relationships and modern culture and how this can change the way communities express themselves. Using his commercial graphic skills and working in close cooperation with his subjects he explores the innate contradictions between the human voice and the brand identities which are beginning to dominate modern cultures. His recent projects have utilised collaborations with refugee’s, professional skateboarders and independent punk bands, among other things. Generally his works are figurative, often portraits, but are fairly non traditional in execution. As well as oils and watercolour paintings, Nick uses stickers, graphics, stencils, collage and printmaking to execute his artworks and installations.
