Acaraje
This is a bean paste that’s rolled into a ball and deep fried in dendê (palm oil). It is served with shrimp, caruru (okra paste), or Vatapá (shrimp paste).⠀
The Acarajé was brought to Brazil by slaves from West Africa. Nowadays, it is a common street food in Bahia (mainly in the city of Salvador), and it is sold by Baianas, women dressed in all white cotton dresses, headscarves and caps.⠀
