Feijoada
The Brazilian Feijoada was created in Recife and was inspired by Portuguese stews. It is made with black beans, beef, bacon, sausage and other pork parts such as ears, feet, and tail.
The name “Feijoada” comes from feijão, the portuguese word for beans. It is traditionally served with kale, rice, and orange slices.
The feijoada is considered to be one of the national dishes of Brazil, and its usually served on Saturdays or Sundays afternoons, so people can leisurely eat and chill. The tradition surrounding the feijoada is exemplified in the Vinicius de Moraes song “Feijoada à Minha Moda” (feijoada in my fashion):
“Que prazer o corpo pede/
Após comido um tal feijão?/
Evidentemente uma rede/
E um gato para passar a mão”
